Extended Warranties

My husband took off today to spend with me so this is going to be brief.

Anytime you get an extended warranty ASK to read the paperwork before you sign on the dotted line.  Once I was assured that even if I dropped my laptop because I'm what is considered a "fall risk"  will they cover the repairs.  I was assured they would.  You could spill a soda on your laptop and it would be covered.  Wrong.  And since that day my husband won't shop Best Buy because everyone we went to represented it as such until it broke.  Then everyone backed out, nor did they fix it and have me pay for it.

About the same time we bought a truck and purchased the extended warranty, (before we learned from the computer mishap.)  It has come in handy on more than one occasion.  It was represented to us as bumper to bumper coverage for 75,000 miles.. it covered everything but non durable items,  tires and brake pads.  Now, that there's over 50,000 miles on the truck there are a few things to don't fall under that "bumper to bumper" policy we purchased.  Expensive ones too!

The point I'm trying to make is that on both times we were not offered the paperwork to see what it does or does not cover until it was time to pay for it and ring it up.  The computer in particular, they took the paperwork to the cashier, we never even saw anything until we were out of the store.  The truck, we went on the sales person word.. our mistake.

So, I am passing those mistakes on so anyone that reads this will be aware that you have a right to read the paperwork and have everything clarified before you make the purchase.  If you are denied this,  leave the store and go make your purchase at a different place of business.  I do purchase extended warranties on my computers but I'm also afforded the paperwork to see what is and what is not covered.

I do not purchase extended warranties on everything.  Computers and cars yes.  Fridge?  Washer?  So  far, the only things I've used a warranty on is the car and attempted to on the computer.  Otherwise, all the rest expired and the purchased items never had a problem.  IF..IF they did it happened within the first year and the original warranty covered repairs.

Purchase wisely...
And.. an added note.. I will work on the story tomorrow.  Today I'm spending with my husband.  I just figured I'd post this while he was on the phone trying to get his truck fixed.
